As an experienced headshot photographer, I've seen this particular style of photography change over the years. The rise in the use of AI is the latest but without doubt the most profound of these changes. But do you trust a computer to create your image and how you choose to present it? Your credibility may suffer as a result of a poorly judged fake photo. Security is a major concern too. With identity theft on the rise, it's a risk to upload numerous high resolution photos of yourself to a random website, agree to their terms and conditions and hope for the best outcome.

Nowadays, it’s increasingly difficult to know what’s real and what isn’t. It’s all about authenticity, knowing who to trust and believe in. Most experienced photographers and image professionals can spot an AI generated headshot immediately. Often the eyes look unnatural, the skin too smooth and the expression unrealistic. Whilst some individuals may prefer this softer, younger and animated view of themselves, it may be interpreted as inauthentic and misleading. If this accompanies a profile piece, business website or LinkedIn photo, that’s not the best way to introduce yourself. Also, as a picture is worth a thousand words, it’s vital to get this right and build trust at the outset. From professional profiles to websites and even dating apps, viewers will make instantaneous decisions based on that photo, before reading a single word.

The photographer and the client need to work together to jointly create a great headshot by capturing each individual personailty. A genuine photo requires realistic expressions, skilled lighting, natural poses and an honest acceptance of any imperfections. This can only be achieved by creating a rapport together, through interaction between real people on either side of the camera.

As AI continues to improve and it’s usage becomes more widespread, demand for realistic portraiture becomes more of a niche area. Ironically, these naturalistic, authentic headshots are more likely to stand out from the overly stylised, unnatural AI alternatives. The importance of that first impression of authenticity, trust and credibility cannot be overstated.

Now with the ability to shoot and deliver up to a hundred headshots in a single day, I can customise your shoot to suit your own specific requirements. Either at your office, event or exhibition stand, consider using a real photographer for your next corporate image.
